In our Meet the Team series, we introduce the people working behind the scenes to help NHS estate leaders optimise their estate and healthcare service providers access flexible space across England. Here are some quick introductions to some of our newest colleagues.
Jeff Somerfield, NHS Open Space Utilisation and Implementation Specialist
In my role… I deliver our Utilisation Sensor Programme. This involves coordinating the installation of sensors that monitor estate usage, ensuring these are strategically placed and correctly configured in properties where we are supporting NHS estate leaders to gather data on how their spaces are being used.
My background… includes over 30 years of experience and knowledge in space management and space planning and design in the private sector, working for a wide range of blue-chip companies, including Barclays and Amazon.
Outside of work… I am happiest spending time with my family and friends, walking my dog in the beautiful local countryside, and working towards my goal of learning Japanese.
Marcus Ogunlowo, NHS Open Space Business Manager
In my role… I’m responsible for supporting the continued growth of NHS Open Space, working closely with estate leaders across the wider NHS to understand their challenges and identify where our space management solution can deliver the greatest value.
My background… is in the sales and business development world. I’ve found that I can bring immense value in this area, as someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people to build long-term relationships based on trust and collaboration.
Outside of work… I have a real passion for films, particularly storytelling and creative direction.
Funmi Majek, NHS Open Space Onboarding Manager
In my role… I work with estate leaders to implement our utilisation studies. These are carried out across a fixed term using strategically placed sensors. The data we gather helps them to understand how their space is being used and how it could be best optimised to increase patient access and value for money.
My background… is in project and programme transformation, having worked in various government departments and in the private sector.
Outside of work… I enjoy travelling and making my own home fragrances.
Holly Coombs, NHS Open Space Marketing Manager
In my role… I work closely with the NHS Open Space team to deliver marketing activity that helps us reach more healthcare service providers and NHS estate leaders, helping to optimise estate use and improve patient access.
My background… spans a range of not-for-profit and public sector organisations. I have been part of communications and marketing teams supporting charities, healthcare professionals and local authorities.
Outside of work… you can find me adding to my ever-growing vinyl collection, whilst proving it is possible to be both a cat and a dog person.
