Whitby Hospital project timescales are refreshed

by Chris Cunniff

NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and partners have shared an update on the remodelling of Whitby Hospital project which includes refreshed project milestones.

NHS Property Services took ownership of the hospital site in November 2015 and forms a key part of the project group coordinating the redevelopment.

The key milestones for the work at the existing hospital site are as follows:

  • Procurement of a construction partner will commence in February 2017
  • Indicative floor plans completed by end March 2017
  • Master planning exercise for the new site underway in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council to be completed by end March 2017
  • Indicative date to start on site in the Autumn of 2017

Dr George Campbell, CCG GP Governing Body member said: “After a very busy and on occasion, challenging year, the project group responsible for the remodelling of Whitby Hospital is really pleased to share these revised milestones.

“At this stage, the project group had hoped to be in a position to share designs and further details of the remodelling of the hospital; however during 2016 the team had to schedule an unplanned break after a national policy change to introduce market rents. This change meant that the costs of the project needed to be reassessed and given the current NHS financial challenge, the CCG had to ensure that the preferred option for the project was still affordable.

“The CCG executive team has now given approval to progress with the next stage of the project. This means that the project team can develop the outline business case which is the key planning aspect for moving forward.”

The project team hope to share further details with designs and a revised hospital opening date over the next couple of months. In the meantime, members of the public can contact whitbyf4f@nhs.net with any problems or queries.
