What is Million Makers?

The Prince’s Trust is a youth charity formed in 1976 by HRH The Prince of Wales. The Trust aims to help disadvantaged young people aged 13–30 – those in long term unemployment, underachievers at school, those leaving care and people who have been in trouble with the law.

Million MakersMillion Makers is a national competition that challenges teams of employees from different companies to raise in excess of £10,000 and collectively raise £1 million for The Prince’s Trust. We are proud to have a team of NHS Property Services graduate surveyors taking the Million Makers Challenge, raising £10,000 for disadvantaged young people through the Prince’s Trust. To achieve this, the team has created a series of Continual Professional Development events.

The Continuing Professional Development series

The team is running a series of charity CPD events in Autumn 2014. The events offer property and healthcare professionals the opportunity to gain valuable Continuing Professional Development hours together with networking, while donating to a worthy cause.

The first two events were very successful with more than 50 people at each enjoying stimulating talks. The next one is as follows:

9 December 2014: Public sector property: improving utilisation

Speakers confirmed so far:

  • Chris Kane: Non-Executive Director, NHS Property Services Ltd & CEO, BBC Commercial Projects (and former Head of BBC Workplace)
  • Stuart Ladds: Head of National Property Controls, Government Property Unit
  • Andrew Strange: Head of Planning and Development, NHS Property Services

This CPD event, kindly supported by KPMG, will explore how to maximise efficiency within a public sector property portfolio and techniques used to maintain a high level of efficiency. The seminar is open to all property-related professionals and will enable you to record CPD while supporting a very worthwhile charity.

15 October 2014: Review of the NHS estate: building progress

Bevan BrittanBevan Brittan kindly hosted a very successful event, exploring NHS Property Services’ current position, the challenges it faces and the priorities for one of the biggest property portfolios in Europe. It was attended by 55 people. See the pictures.

11 November 2014: Valuation of the NHS estate: are rents economically viable for future investment? Three specialist commercial property sector perspectives.

This event, kindly hosted and supported by JLL, was a great success, with insightful and motivational speeches from James Hanson (Lead Director – Healthcare, JLL), Tim Meggitt (Chief Operating Officer, Octopus Healthcare), Andrew Sproson (JLL), and Gary Howes (Partner, Montagu Evans).

JLLEach bought their own expert view to the table, giving everyone in the audience something to think about in relation to the valuation of the NHS estate. All the speakers highlighted a need for a change in attitude towards the healthcare industry. In order to avoid the mistakes of the past and bring UK healthcare property to the forefront of the industry, exceptional facilities are required for patients and a system that can adapt to changes in the way services are provided. See the pictures.


Networking Million Makers CPD event at JLL in November 2014

Each event includes networking with refreshments either side of 1.5 hours of CPD in the form of pertinent talks from influential speakers in the healthcare and property industry. We are very grateful to the hosts of each event – Bevan Brittan, JLL and KPMG – for their sponsorship and support.
