Sole Bay Health Centre which was delivered by NHS Property Services, has been commended at the RIBA Suffolk Craftmanship Awards 2015 in the New Build category.

The £5 million two-storey centre, was built on the former Eversley School playing field in Reydon. It provides new, “fit-for-purpose” accommodation for GPs, community services, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacy and outpatient clinics for the nearest District General Hospital, 20 miles away. The building has been designed to a BREEAM Healthcare standard of ‘Excellent.’

The idea for the centre was pioneered by NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group and was delivered by NHS Property Services. Regional Director for the Midlands and East, Martin Royal said: “It’s great to see that patients can now access so many health services on their doorstep and within a modern, high quality, fit for purpose facility. The design is entirely in keeping with the government’s drive to see more services for patients embedded within local communities.”

Rigby Whittaker, Practice Manager at Southwold Surgery, said: “The quality of design and construction elevates the building beyond the norm and people’s expectations. It illustrates the commitment to the health and wellbeing of both the patients and the staff who care for them. I have worked in and visited many surgeries, but I cannot think of another surgery which approaches the quality of this building.”
