Senior facilities management specialists at NHS Property Services have been nominated for two national awards.

Dennis Markey, Chief Operating Officer at NHS Property Services, has been shortlisted in the prestigious Leader of the Year category at this year’s national Health Estates Facilities Management Association (HefmA) awards, which recognise and reward those who are making an outstanding contribution within NHS Estates and Facilities services. Further recognition has also been given to the company’s Yorkshire FM team who have been nominated for Project of the Year for the successful transfer and reorganisation of contracted cleaning services to form one internal service.

The Yorkshire FM team undertook the challenging task of transferring contracted cleaning services across three counties, 127 properties and from 17 different providers to develop an integrated In-House service involving the TUPE transfer of 330 members of staff. Jo Hill, FM Service Delivery Manager for the Yorkshire area of NHS Property Services, led the project.

She said: “We are delighted that our submission has been successful and shortlisted for the Project of the Year and it’s a testament to the whole Yorkshire team for overcoming a number of challenges to ensure our services continue to develop and improve. HefmA

“All Soft FM services in Yorkshire (with the exception of Humber) were previously provided against inherited, outdated service specifications. It was essential that services were standardised to meet NHSPS specification, which is based on national specification for cleaning standards, so we could ensure the services being delivered were efficient and met our customers’ needs.”

Dennis Markey, COO at NHS Property Services, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to the Yorkshire FM Team for the outstanding work they have undertaken to improve services for our customers and it’s great to see that their hard work has been recognised with this coveted nomination.”

Commenting on his own nomination for Leader of the Year, which recognises the highest levels of support and commitment to the FM profession within healthcare, Dennis said: “It’s a real privilege and honour to be recognised and I’d like to thank my FM colleagues for the contribution they continue to make to the development of our facilities management services at NHS Property Services. I wish everyone the very best of luck at the awards.”

The HefmA Awards 2016 will be presented at the association’s annual Leadership Forum on 19 May 2016.
