A health and wellbeing centre in South Shields has been shortlisted for the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) North East Awards 2016.

The £1.6m Marsden Road Health and Wellbeing Centre is owned by NHS Property Services and managed through a partnership between South Tyneside Council and Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle.

The state-of-the-art building houses multiple community facilities including GP/nursing services, a dental surgery and sporting activities such as UFC Football Summer Camp and Horsley Hill Amateur Boxing Club. Other facilities on site also include a gym, sports hall, multi use games area and a comprehensive events area for celebrations, ceremonies and meetings.

Keith Hodgson, Project Manager at NHS Property Services, said: “It’s great to have an inspiring community asset like Marsden Road Health and Wellbeing Centre in our portfolio. The centre is a hub for the community, providing a variety of services to help improve the health and wellbeing of local residents. The shortlisting is well deserved and we very much look forward to the awards.”

The RICS Awards showcase the achievements of the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment. The centre has been shortlisted in the ‘Community Benefit’ category and a judging visit is scheduled.
