Refurbishing a health centre, providing new space for the Practice Nurse

Egerton & Dunscar Health Centre, Bolton

Background

Customers/Stakeholders: Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Dr Jack Leach GP Practice

NHSPS representatives: Kayley Riley, Senior Portfolio Optimisation Manager, and Mark Lloyd, Principal Construction Manager

Customer feedback

“This is an area that the patients use and it’s nice for them to feel they are in a clean environment.”

Dr Jack Leach, GP

Challenge

The works were identified by local NHS Property Services teams. A vacant room that had been used for storage was identified as a space that could be used by the Practice nurse who did not have a space to work effectively. Elsewhere on site, the staff welfare facilities were in need of an upgrade.

Solution

NHS Property Services invested £25,000 to refurbish both spaces, bringing the vacant room up to standard for clinical use and completely refurbishing the toilets.

This scheme is part of a wider NHSPS initiative to identify opportunities to improve staff rest and welfare areas for our NHS partners.

Impact

The Health Centre now has an additional clinical room, fully kitted out for the Practice nurse. This will expand and improve Primary Care provision on site, improving staff and patient experience alike. The new toilets are now far more pleasant to use, which will again benefit both staff and patients.
