Brownsover Medical Centre opens to local residents

The keenly anticipated Brownsover Medical Centre will open its doors to local residents on Monday, 28th January, bringing GP and other primary care services back to Brownsover following a £2.3 million investment and close consultation with the community.

The original Brownsover surgery on Bow Fell closed in 2015, with a temporary surgery located on Lower Hillmorton Road serving patients until the opening of the brand new medical centre this coming Monday.

The new purpose-built centre, developed in partnership between NHS Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NHS England and NHS Property Services, covers 624 square metres and includes five consultation rooms, two treatment rooms and a waiting room which can seat up to 34 people. It has been designed to support up to 10,000 patients by 2030, based on expected population growth for the area over the next decade.

Paul Jones, Principal Construction Manager, NHS Property Services, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the building complete and ready to provide the much needed GP services to the Brownsover community."  We are pleased to have played our part in developing the building with our NHS colleagues, working very closely with all stakeholders including the Patient Action Group, Coventry and Rugby CCG and Greswolde Construction Ltd, who were instrumental in delivering the new centre to high specification and standard of finish."

Local residents have been heavily involved in the development, helping to ensure the medical centre was developed based on the needs and expectations of local people, and much of their feedback has been taken on board and incorporated into the new medical centre as part of a positive investment for the local community. For example, members of the community were instrumental in helping select the organisation which will provide medical services at the centre, and even helped chose the interior paint scheme, based on Rugby Golf Course.

Andrea Green, Chief Officer for the CCG, said: “The opening of the Brownsover Medical Centre is a significant occasion for the community of Brownsover. By being so heavily involved in and vocal about the development, local residents have ensured the practice has been designed to meet their needs and the needs of the future population of the area.”

Local MP Mark Pawsey, who has supported the development on behalf of local residents for many years, said: “I am delighted that the new medical practice will be opening on the 28th January. The new practice has been much anticipated and my constituents in the Brownsover area have been incredibly patient in waiting for this new replacement facility to be delivered."

A ceremony to mark the opening of the new medical centre will be held on Thursday, 14th February, presided over by the Mayor of Rugby.
