Redevelopment of out-patient wing to accommodate improved medical services and new community services

Last month work commenced to redevelop the Gossoms End surgery in Berkhamsted.

The project is due to be completed in January 2021 and will bring together several services in the updated health centre. The building is owned by NHS Property Services (NHSPS) and the work will be funded by NHS England as part of its Estates Technology Transformation Fund.

Whilst some community services and Gossoms End Surgery are already based at the site on Victory Road in Berkhamsted, the new work will use an out-patient wing, vacant since 2016, to accommodate improved general medical services in the building, along with NHS community services.

Rothschild House Group took over the surgery and the Boxwell Road premises when it merged with Berkhamsted Group Practice on 1 January. Existing GP services will remain open during the works, with every effort made to minimise disruption to patients and staff.

The new surgery will be a modern purpose-built health facility updated to the latest guidelines. The redevelopment will include better provisions for those with accessibility challenges, it will increase the quantity and quality of consulting and treatment rooms, as well as improving the office space and reception areas. With the new surgery and NHS community services based from the same building there will be a one-stop shop for patients ensuring a smoother patient journey.

A representative from NHS Property Services, said “This new redevelopment makes excellent use of our current estate to deliver modern integrated health facilities. We’re pleased to have worked closely with the CCG and other local stakeholder to provide better patient care for the people of Berkhamsted.”
