NHS Property Services has completed the sale of the former Southwold Hospital to a local community group, Southwold and Waveney Regeneration Society Limited.

The group is being supported in the purchase by Hastoe Housing Association.

The former cottage hospital was deemed surplus to requirements in April 2016 with services being reconfigured and re-provided locally.  Southwold and Waveney Regeneration Society Limited have purchased the building for £935,000. Planning permission has been secured to deliver new community facilities alongside nine new homes.

Saul Spevack, Senior Transaction Manager for NHS Property Services (NHSPS), said: “The sale of the former Southwold Hospital has not only generated funds for reinvestment but also brought a vacant site back into use to deliver much needed new homes and community facilities. Proceeds from the sales will be reinvested in the NHS.”

Paul Maidment, associate director for Savills Chelmsford who advised on the sale, added: “We are delighted that Hastoe Housing Association has purchased the former Southwold Hospital site for the provision of affordable housing. As part of its commitment to the local community Hastoe Housing Association will be working with Southwold and Waveney Regeneration Society LTD to also provide community-led projects which is a very positive outcome for Southwold residents.”

Savills advised NHSPS on the sale of Southwold Hospital.
