Reconfiguring a health centre, maximising space for staff admin and re-fitting staff kitchen and WCs

Farnworth Health Centre, Bolton

Background

Customers/Stakeholders: Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Bolton Foundation Trust, Fig Tree Practice, and Farnworth Family Practice

NHSPS representatives: Kayley Riley, Senior Portfolio Optimisation Manager, and Mark Lloyd, Principal Construction Manager

Challenge

The CCG have a strategic aim to increase the clinical usage of the building. While NHS Property Services teams were scoping the options it became apparent that space occupied by staff welfare and kitchen facilities on the first alongside vacant space presented an opportunity to repurpose for additional GP capacity.

Solution

NHS Property Services invested £86,000 to reconfigure and refurbish the space, with our Construction teams providing newly fitted WCs and kitchen facilities for NHS staff, and maximising the admin space on the first floor.

We are committed to improving environments for NHS colleagues and patients alike. This scheme is part of our nationwide initiative to identify opportunities to improve staff rest and welfare areas for our NHS partners.

Impact

The expanded admin space on the first floor will now enable a future project to reconfigure the ground floor to provide additional clinical space.

The improved staff kitchen, staffroom and WCs now offers light modern space for our NHS colleagues, which we hope will help improve their physical and mental wellbeing ensuring the delivering of excellent patient care.
