Celebrating 100 completed Healthy Places projects

As we approach the end of this financial year, we are thrilled to have made such fantastic progress on our Healthy Places programme, and are working hard to complete our remaining priority projects within it.

In 2021 we expanded our Healthy Places programme to transform the NHS estate, support Integrated Care Systems and enable excellent patient care. Ranging from refurbishments and new builds to estate optimisation and social prescribing initiatives, our projects will positively impact 4 million patients in the coming months and years.

As we approach the end of this financial year, we are thrilled to have made such fantastic progress with our NHS colleagues, delivering key milestones on 100 projects. This includes 65 projects completed on site, and 35 reaching their in-year target milestone such as submission of a business case.

Completed project examples include:

We’re now focussed on completing the full year’s programme and are on track to reach target milestones on 230 projects. More than half of these will see projects completing on site, including upgrading 35,000sqm of space, increasing the number of social prescribing hubs to 50, and continuing the expansion of flexible room booking through NHS Open Space. Others have reached core milestones which will support their full completion in the next financial year.

Whilst we focus on completing this year’s programme, we’re also starting to look ahead and work with NHS colleagues to identify key priorities for next year. The third year of our Healthy Places programme will see a greater emphasis on tackling health inequalities (supporting the levelling up agenda) and responding to NHS priorities such as community diagnostic centres and Covid-19 recovery support. We are keen to work more closely with Integrated Care Systems to identify and support regional priorities – both those we are already working on and emerging requirements.
