NHS Property Services appoints new Chair

Today we have announced that Jane Hamilton will assume the role of NHSPS Chair on 22nd March 2021.

Jane will take over the position from Ian Ellis who has been the Chair since 2016, supporting NHSPS in delivering on its commitment to enable excellent patient care and to improve the health estate for both patients and NHS workers.

Jane has over 30 years of experience in the property and government sectors. Alongside her current role at The University of Essex she is also a Non-Executive Director at the Government Property Agency. Her experience at a senior executive level spans global banking, investment management and property management in the UK and overseas. She has also been on the Board of Trustees at the Institute of Cancer Research. Throughout her career she has been actively involved in managing organisational change, talent development and environmental sustainability.

In her new role, Jane will work closely with the Department of Health and Social Care to steer the direction of NHSPS, collaborating with customers, integrated care systems and local councils as the NHS estate evolves to ensure healthcare facilities meet the needs of the future in a sustainable manner. Key areas of focus will include building on existing work around community-based care and social prescribing sites, as well as supporting the NHS in achieving their goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Commenting on her appointment, Jane Hamilton said: “I am thrilled to be involved with such an important and values-led institution as NHSPS. It is an exciting time to join the company, as we look to continue to support the NHS and patients by providing healthcare facilities that meet patients’ needs now and beyond the pandemic. I look forward to the challenges ahead, but most importantly to making a tangible difference to the NHS.”

Martin Steele, CEO of NHSPS said: “We are delighted that Jane has agreed to take on the role of Chair. She has a wealth of experience in both the property and government sectors which will be integral in our continued efforts to support the NHS in getting the most from its estate, ensuring it’s consistently fit for purpose so that healthcare professionals can deliver excellent patient care. I would also like to thank our outgoing Chair Ian Ellis for his leadership at NHSPS over the past five years. He has played an important role in guiding the organisation through a difficult time for the whole NHS.”
