NHS Property Services has completed the sale of the former Bridgwater Hospital in Somerset for £1.6 million.

The site has secured planning permission for a hotel, gym, swimming pool, day nursery and three homes.

The property has been sold to a local hotelier and could now be transformed into an 80-bed hotel.

Bridgwater Hospital closed in 2014 with its services transferred to a new purpose built £33m facility which is located on the edge of town.

Alan White, Senior Transaction Manager for NHS Property Services, said: “We are pleased to be returning vital funds to the NHS while releasing this historic building so that it can be brought back to use.”

Capital released from NHS Property Services’ activities is reinvested in the NHS.
