Priti Patel, MP for Witham, recently visited the Central Canvey Primary Care Centre on Canvey Island to see firsthand the great NHS facilities and services being provided to local people.

Ian Stidston of NHS England and Ian Mortimer of NHS Property Services gave the MP a tour of the Essex Centre, which is operationally managed by NHS Property Services (NHSPS) on behalf of owners Community Health Partnerships and LIFT Company, Prydium. During the tour they talked Ms Patel through the history of the health centre from the planning stages through to public consultation, construction and finally commissioning.

The purpose of her visit was to see how well the facility is working and whether a similar centre could be developed in her constituency of Witham.

Ms Patel, said: “Today’s visit was a great opportunity to see what a large multipurpose primary care facility can deliver and how it can help people access GPs.  I was impressed with the Centre in Canvey Island and the services it provides to its local community. This type of facility is first-class and may be a model for other areas to follow.”

John Henry, Local Area Team Coordinator from NHSPS in Essex, said: “It’s great to have one of our local MPs visit our building, seeing first-hand the great facilities and the great NHS services being delivered there.”
