Our new Vacant Space Handback Scheme comes in response to feedback from commissioners who want to reduce the cost of maintaining space that they decide is no longer needed.

We are therefore pleased to be partnering with NHS Clinical Commissioners (NHSCC) to host a webinar on vacant space on 22 November 2017 from 1.00-2.00pm, providing commissioning and CCG colleagues with the opportunity to hear directly from us about the benefits of the scheme.

The vacant space handback scheme is an arrangement which allows commissioners to pass the liability for eligible vacant space back to us. The total amount and cost of vacant space in the NHS is hard to calculate, but costs are estimated to be in excess of £10million a year on the NHS Property Services estate alone.

The webinar will be chaired by Julie Wood, chief executive, NHSCC, with contributions from:

  • John Westwood, Director of Asset Management, NHS Property Services
  • Mike Parker, Principal Vacant Space Manager, NHS Property Services
  • Kate Richardson, Senior Strategy Manager, NHS Property Services
