Could you be our next charity partner?

Beginning in April 2021, NHS Property Services is looking to collaborate with a national charity to support the health and wellbeing of communities across England. Applications are now open and close on 31 January 2021.

NHS Property Services is a government-owned company which exists to help the NHS get the most from its estate, and ensure that it is consistently fit for purpose so that healthcare professionals can deliver excellent patient care. Our portfolio is one of the largest in the UK, comprising more than 3,000 properties with 7,000 tenants across England. At a total value of more than £3bn, this represents about 10% of the total NHS estate. Our properties range from listed buildings through to state-of-the-art integrated health campuses. As part of our role in helping the NHS deliver on its Long Term Plan, we are committed to creating healthy places for patients, colleagues, communities and the environment to thrive through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. One way in which we do this is by partnering with a charity that has a health and wellbeing focus to work together to achieve our common goals.

Working together to tackle health and wellbeing

We are looking to work with a charity partner to raise £150,000 through employee fundraising to fund one of your services over a three-year period. In addition to raising funds, we are offering the potential to use space within our buildings across the country for your charity to deliver your service, free of charge. Our properties range in size and functionality so we’ll work with you to find something that fits your needs.

We will also be able to offer:

  • An annual company-wide fundraising challenge which, to date, has included a cross-country cycle, Yorkshire Three Peaks trek and remote pandemic-friendly fundraising campaign. Find out more about our previous efforts here.
  • A workforce of 5000 colleagues who we can promote your challenges and wider event portfolio to.
  • Each colleague has 15 hours of volunteering that they can use to support your charity.
  • Dedicated and collaborative support from our CSR team with equal opportunity to share proposals, needs and develop our partnership vision.
  • Executive sponsorship from a member of our Board who will help to shape and drive forward our partnership across the business.
  • An engaged and growing champion network of over 60 colleagues who will rally support, arrange activities and advocate for your charity across our teams and regions.
  • Regular PR and social media coverage for your charity and our campaigns to showcase our work together.
  • We will promote the service that your charity offers to local MPs whenever possible.

Apply to be our charity partner

To be considered to be our charity partner, you must...

  • Operate in England
  • Pitch a service for support that has a health or wellbeing focus
  • Pitch a service that will benefit from using our spaces enabling either the launch of a new service or scaling up an existing one
  • Have fundraising and partnership support available
  • Offer volunteering opportunities to our colleagues where possible
  • Have stewardship plans and journeys for our colleagues
  • Run campaigns and provide impactful reporting
  • Pitch a service that is sustainable and will be able to continue after our partnership comes to an end

What happens once you apply?

After applications close on 31 January 2021, we will review all entries and choose a shortlist of four.

The four shortlisted charities will be invited to pitch their proposal to our Corporate Social Responsibility team and a member of the Executive Committee, with three being selected for the final round.

The final three charities will be asked to take part in a virtual roadshow to present what you do and how we can work together to our NHSPS colleagues. We will then have an all staff vote where colleagues to chose their favourite charity over a three week period.

The winner will be announced at the beginning of April and planning for our partnership will commence!

Our CSR strategy commits to act responsibly and operate sustainably across everything that we do. Since we launched our strategy in 2018, we have developed programmes to tackle five key issues: supporting social prescribing, reducing carbon emissions, managing waste, improving accessibility, and tackling isolation and loneliness.
