NHS Property Services (NHSPS) today announced that Chief Executive Officer Martin Steele will be leaving the organisation at the end of March 2027, following nine years with the business.  

During his tenure, first as Chief Operating Officer and subsequently as CEO, Martin Steele has overseen a significant period of transformation for NHSPS, helping establish the organisation as a leading estates partner to the NHS and strengthening its role in supporting healthcare delivery across England.  

Since joining NHSPS, Martin has played a key role in helping the organisation address the challenges associated with bringing together a complex estate of approximately 3,000 properties inherited from 161 Primary Care Trusts. Under his leadership, NHSPS has strengthened estate compliance and governance, improved operational performance, enhanced customer focus and developed a clearer strategic direction.  

The announcement comes as NHSPS enters a new phase of closer customer relationships and increased delivery of expertise, with growing recognition from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE) of the contribution it can make to wider NHS estate transformation and delivery of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan. This includes the delivery of 11 Neighbourhood Health Centres as part of wave one of the programme.

NHSPS has commenced a recruitment process to appoint a successor and will provide further updates in due course. Martin Steele will remain in post until March 2027 to ensure an orderly transition and continued focus on delivering for customers and supporting the NHS.
