The countdown to the completion of Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre is officially on, with construction of the £16 million site having reached its highest point.
NHS Property Services representatives joined leaders from Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board to mark the occasion on the recently installed roof, where they were joined by NHS colleagues due to relocate to the building, alongside the Mayor of Trowbridge and officials from Wiltshire Council.
Andrew Strange, Estates Strategy Lead for NHS Property Services in the South, said: “It’s fantastic that this exciting project has reached this pivotal milestone. We are very pleased to have enabled the delivery of this super integrated care centre which we know will enable our NHS colleagues, across different specialisms, to work more collaboratively and deliver excellent care to patients in a fantastic, state of the art environment at the heart of the local neighbourhood.”
Construction work on the new integrated care centre which, when complete, will be one of the country’s first completely self-sufficient NHS buildings, is expected to finish before the end of the year, with doors opening to patients in early 2026.
The move follows NHSPS’ delivery of its ‘sister’ site Devizes Health Centre, and the site will also employ the latest green technology enabling it to be net zero carbon.
Once fully operational, the centre will become the new location for all health and care services, including the minor injury unit and X-ray department, currently based within nearby Trowbridge Community Hospital.
Caroline Holmes, Interim Executive Lead for Cancer, Planned Care and Community, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, gave a rooftop speech to thank those who had come along for bringing the new centre to life.
She said: “When the very first spades went in the ground, it was difficult to picture how a brand-new health and care facility could emerge from what was essentially a very muddy field. Yet here we are. The building work is well underway; the finish line is firmly in sight and local people can now see their new integrated care centre really begin to take shape.”
Cllr Clare Cape, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Co-ordination with the NHS, said: “I was delighted to attend this event and see firsthand the progress being made in delivering vital health facilities for our residents. By strategically allocating funds from the Wiltshire Community Infrastructure Levy, we’re ensuring that contributions from local developments are directly reinvested into projects that make a meaningful and lasting difference in our communities.”
