Sale of Coburg Court to provide new care facilities

NHS Property Services can confirm that it has completed the sale of Coburg Court in Dorchester to Dorset Council and East Borough Housing Trust, with the proceeds being reinvested back into the NHS and the primary care estate.

The site, formerly occupied by hospital staff, will be converted into specialist accommodation to provide housing and care support to vulnerable adults in the local community.

The new premises, funded by the NHS England Transforming Care Programme, will enable residents to leave hospital settings and enjoy their home environment. Without the care support that will be provided in the new accommodation, patients would have to remain in a hospital setting.

Further benefits of the sale will be realised through in-patient care cost reduction and bed space being available for patients who require them most.

Following the transaction, Nicola Booth, Senior Transaction Manager at NHS Property Services said: “This transaction celebrates all stakeholders in Health, Housing, Social Services and Commissioning working together to provide this specialist accommodation for the benefit of the local Dorchester community and Dorset County.”

The project has also been nominated for “The Most Outstanding Contribution to Health Delivery Outcomes in the UK in 2018” award by the UK Over 50s Housing Awards.
