Responsible Business

NHS Property Services is an organisation that takes pride in being part of the healthcare system in England; we want to be recognised as the best property and facilities management provider to the NHS. Our focus is always on what we can do to improve and how we can work together with our colleagues and customers to achieve our common goals.

That’s what being a responsible business is all about for us. It’s at the core of changes we’ve already made and will continue to make as we respond to the demands of the times we live in, and the needs of those we serve – our customers, our patients, our communities and our colleagues.

We have made progress in recent years to improve the way we operate as an organisation and the impact we have as an employer. Social responsibility, smarter working and net zero, for example, are more than buzz words. They are part of who we are and integral to our ongoing success. We will continue to challenge ourselves, asking "what more can we do?" This is our journey of continuous improvement.

We want everyone to be proud of working for and with NHS Property Services. Listed below are just some of the components that make up our approach to being a Responsible Business:

What makes us a responsible business?

Social responsibility

Through charity partnerships, social prescribing, volunteering and much more, we’re using our buildings and people to support community wellbeing.

Delivering a Greener NHS

We are committed to fulfil the NHS target of being net zero carbon by 2040 while also delivering cost efficiency for utilities and going beyond basic environmental compliance.

Sustainable Procurement

We look to achieve both value for money and realise the social, environmental and ethical impact that our procurement activities can create.

A binder of messy paperwork

To ensure we take the right steps as an organisation, our Board and committees oversee the work that we do, making sure we work efficiently, and manage risks and meet legal obligations.

Data and Information, Management Systems and Compliance

We have business solutions in place that are increasingly data driven. This helps to ensure we have effective management systems not to ensure compliance but to support Business Excellence.

Health and Safety

We’re committed to developing a strong safety culture to ensure everyone who works for us, and those affected by what we do, go home safe and well.

Colleague wellbeing

We're in the process of creating a workplace where we are all more aware of our own mental health, know how to look after our wellbeing and can support each other.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We celebrate diversity and are working hard to create an inclusive environment where people love to work and can fulfil their potential.

Developing an ESG Maturity Model

We are conscious that our performance needs to be validated through increased transparency and demonstrable outcomes for our customers, patients, colleagues and the NHS. We have developed an Environmental, Social and Governance model to help map our current and future states.
