Being a responsible business means not only looking after our colleagues physical wellbeing, but their mental wellbeing too. We really value the health and wellbeing of our people and our success is based on their expertise, passion and commitment.

That's why we're aiming to create a workplace where we are all more aware of our own mental health, where we know how to proactively look after our wellbeing, and where we are well-equipped to have conversations around mental health and support each other.

We recognise that there is still work to do here but this is an area we are committed to improving.

Our wellbeing programme

Supporting and investing in mental and physical health has never been more important as we navigate through the effects of COVID-19.

That's why at the start of March 2020, we launched our wellbeing programme, committing to produce, implement and communicate a mental health at work plan; develop mental health awareness among colleagues; and encourage open conversations about mental health and the support available when colleagues are struggling.

The programme focuses on addressing colleagues' overall sense of wellness across three distinct pillars: workplace wellness, mental health and physical health.

Wellbeing initiatives to support colleagues

We are currently running monthly, live, wellbeing webinars for all employees at NHSPS. These webinars are usually run by our specialist partners and designed to provide colleagues with the tools they need to look after their wellbeing more effectively. Topics so far have included nutrition, mindfulness, preventing burnout, mental health awareness, managing anxiety and building resilience.

To help colleagues support each other, we have trained over 30 people to become MHFA England certified Mental Health First Aiders so that colleagues know how best to support someone that is struggling and we've launched virtual mental health training for managers.

One of the professional services we offer is our Employee Assistance Programme which is a personal support service for confidential, free counselling, 24/7/365.

We also have a range of physical wellbeing initiatives including our cycle to work scheme and since the start of March 2020, we've run over 66 personal training sessions to help colleagues exercise, which was especially challenging during the early lockdowns.

But these are just some of the initiatives we have running! Read our colleague wellbeing handbook below for more information.

Colleague wellbeing handbook

As part of our duty of care to look after the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, we have created this handbook to provide information and raise awareness of mental health, to promote our policies that support mental health in the workplace and to equip colleagues with some tips and tools to proactively look after their wellbeing.
