NHS Property Services is pioneering an exciting new service to allow customers to use space in a much more cost-effective way.

NHS Open Space allows customers to hire both clinical and non-clinical space as and when they need it, on an hourly or daily basis. This provides greater flexibility and choice, while making much more efficient use of the estate and minimising vacant or underused space.

This programme is a significant step forward in the optimisation of the NHS estate. Currently, sessional space is inconsistently administered across the NHS estate using different processes for booking, pricing, access conditions and service levels. This makes it difficult for customers to book and plan their space requirements, leading to wasted time and money.

The new online booking system allows customers to view detailed information about rooms, check availability then book, pay and manage the booking. Room types available vary from clinical space and activity rooms to meeting rooms and offices.

We're currently live in 20 sites, and will be expanding across the NHS Property Services portfolio, with up to 250 properties joining in the coming months. Here's where we are so far, and where our new properties are planned

We are delaying our Spring expansion (to 40 new properties) due to coronavirus COVID-19, but are continuing to prepare and plan this and future expansions for later in the year.
