Large Mural Erected At A Basingstoke Health Centre To Mark Double Celebration

At a health centre in Basingstoke, a colleague from NHS Property Services (NHSPS) supported the creation of a bespoke mural to celebrate 75 years of the NHS.

Before the mural was created, it was a large blank wall within the Bramblys Grange Health Centre carpark that offered little comfort to patients when they arrived at the facility. So, Chloe Hams, an NHSPS Estates Coordinator, seized the opportunity to liven up the space and make the area more inviting.

She teamed up with the Bramblys Grange Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team to create a mural that marks the NHS’ significant milestone.

CAMHS collated a range of eclectic pictures and drawings for the mural, completed by the young people who use the services. Chloe then provided facilities management support, such as removing existing signage on the wall and approving the final design.

The mural has now been installed and it depicts a photo mosaic of two hearts and a bold 75; permeating the area with colour and refreshing a previously overlooked space.

“I recently worked on the project in collaboration with CAMHS, who are our tenants on site, to deliver a mural on what was a very drab wall. The finished product turned out better than we expected, and we are delighted that we can celebrate the NHS’ 75th anniversary, as well as NHSPS’ 10th birthday,” Chloe said.

“CAMHS is an integral service that provides mental health support and treatment to young people who are experiencing emotional, behavioural, and mental health difficulties. So, it was great to work with these brave young adults and show our support for our NHS heroes.”
