We recently announced two senior appointments to our executive team.

Martin Steele has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Michael Kissman joins as Director of Corporate Services.

Martin brings significant operational and commercial management experience, and a strong track record of delivering complex client services and implementing both hard and soft FM strategies. He has previously worked for leading blue chip companies, including as Managing Director of BT’s facilities services business, as well as posts at Andersens, Northern Foods and Debenhams.

As COO, Martin will drive the company’s operations across FM, capital project delivery, health and safety, procurement and corporate social responsibility. He will also serve as a member of the Board and the Executive Committee of NHS Property Services.

As Director of Corporate Services, Michael brings significant corporate affairs experience. Michael’s career started at health and beauty retailer Boots the Chemists, holding head office positions in marketing and pharmacy development. He then spent 10 years at Tesco PLC, including as UK Community and Property Communications Director, and UK Communications Director. In 2015 he moved to Compass Group PLC, the world’s largest foodservice provider, as UK Corporate Affairs Director.

At NHS Property Services, Michael will have responsibility for leading the corporate services function, including both internal and external communications, public affairs, marketing, branding, strategy and corporate governance. He will also join the Executive Committee.

Martin Steele said:

“Improving our FM offer to customers, and ultimately patients, is a key priority and I want to ensure our team has a renewed focus on customer experience, as well as the time and space to think more strategically about the support our customers will need as new care models emerge.

“That way, we’ll improve the day to day basic services and be able to anticipate our customers’ future needs in the complex NHS environment more effectively.”

Michael Kissman said:

“Next year we will celebrate 70 years of the NHS, however some of its buildings passed that age years ago. Modernising this estate and maximising the efficiency, value and quality of NHS property is an important part of delivering high quality patient care now and in the future.

“I’m privileged to join such a strong team of professional and experienced property colleagues who are dedicated to delivering the best possible facilities for patients and practitioners in the NHS.

“From the thorough cleaning of a single surgery to the construction of a brand-new community hospital, I’m looking forward to telling the positive story of the role we play in our National Health Service.”

Elaine Hewitt, Chief Executive Officer at NHS Property Services, said:

“We would like to warmly welcome both Martin and Michael to NHS Property Services. Their combined expertise and knowledge will help us support improved healthcare through effective property services.”
