Did you know that July 24 is International Self-Care Day?
This day emphasises the importance of self-care as the foundation of wellness. It is a reminder for people all over the world to make self-care a part of their daily routines and make it a priority.
According to NHS Property Services (NHSPS), which manages, maintains, and develops NHS properties in England, self-care can be easily overlooked.
NHSPS Chief People Officer, Helen McCarthy, explains that self-care is vital because it empowers individuals to take control of their healthcare, which can alleviate pressure on health systems.
"Self-care is not just about physical health, but also about emotional and mental wellbeing. It can involve small actions like taking a break during the day or doing something that brings you joy. It is important to remember that self-care is unique to each person, and what works for one person may not work for another."
Helen continued: "At NHSPS, the health and wellbeing of our colleagues is highly valued. We understand that each person's wellbeing is unique and can mean different things. We aim to support all colleagues and address any workplace factors that may be impacting their sense of wellbeing."
Suzanne Jones, Head of Learning and Development at NHSPS, added: "NHSPS offers wellbeing videos and webinars to our workforce, and colleagues have the flexibility to work in ways that best meet the needs of the customer while balancing personal demands.
"Taking care of yourself can positively impact all aspects of your life. It can lead to increased productivity, better relationships, and improved overall health. So, make sure to prioritise self-care in your daily routine and take some time for yourself. Remember, you deserve it!"
