New Chief Executive Officer at NHS Property Services Ltd

by Amy Williams

A new Chief Executive Officer has been appointed by NHS Property Services Ltd.

Elaine Hewitt steps into the new role today (3 February 2015) following a long and successful career in BT Group plc where, as Group Property Director, she managed the largest corporate property portfolio in the UK and real estate across 70 countries.

Elaine succeeds Simon Holden, who has led NHS Property Services from start-up through its first two-and-a-half years, successfully managing the transition from 161 separate property portfolios previously run by primary care trusts and strategic health authorities, to an integrated company that is already delivering significant efficiencies and contributing to wider government objectives, including rapidly releasing surplus land for housing.

Elaine has delivered major portfolio and service transformation over a period of significant business change for BT. Her strong focus on making change happen, delivering results and taking a commercial but collaborative approach will help drive forward the strategic direction at NHS Property Services.

As well as having considerable private sector experience in real estate and facilities management for a demanding corporate occupier in a rapidly evolving sector, Elaine has also spent some time recently as Crown Representative for Property and Facilities Management for the Cabinet Office, so has useful insight into central Government, and an established network across this wider stakeholder group.

Elaine is looking forward to meeting the company’s staff across England, getting to know the portfolio and occupiers, and forming strong relationships with NHS England and Clinical Commissioning Groups.

She said: “I am delighted to be joining NHS Property Services at such an exciting time in the company’s development.

“Despite the change of sector, I expect some continuity from a role that involves me driving change in both estates strategy and facilities, working with delivery partners and leading a team that actively manages thousands of buildings in communities across the country.”

Simon will remain with the company for a short term to ensure an effective handover.

Company chairman Robin Williams said: “I would like to thank Simon Holden for all his hard work in bringing the Company to where it is now.  I would also like to welcome Elaine Hewitt into the Company as its new Chief Executive.  I look forward to working with Elaine on the next phase of the Company’s development.”
